Kangaroo and Caterpillars

Toddlers Corner.

Last week we learnt about musical instruments. We looked at a big book about musical instruments.

We read “Kangaroo Played His Didgeridoo”.

This is the rhyme we did.

The woods are dark

The grass is green

Here comes Sally with a tambourine

A tambourine, A tambourine

Here comes Sally with a tambourine.

We made a tambourine and did a crayon wash of a recorder, we also did a collage of a xylophone. We danced with the tambourines while we listened to Paul Jamieson’s “Grooving Down Under”.

Noah brought in a very big grass hopper. After we had a very good look at him, Noah let him go on a tree. Chelsea brought in some snails from her fish tank for us to look at. Also, Katelyn brought in some chickens.

We are also enjoying the water trough, pouring-measuring-fishing and playing with the boats.

Thanks Mrs Haller, Miss Smallman

Parents/Guardians, can you please put sunscreen on your child before they play outside. Do this before you leave home or when you arrive at the Centre? Thank you for your help.

We read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” after we found a caterpillar on a tree outside. Guess what. We found another caterpillar and it made a cocoon. Caitlin brought in her chickens to show us. They were very cute. They made a “cheep, cheep” noise.

We love to kick the soccer ball to each other outside. We are getting very good at it. Some of us love to climb on the dome and then hang upside down like a flying fox.

Chelsea brought in some snails for us to look at. We discussed that the homes for snails are their shells. We then read a book called “Snail” and one called “What Will I Be”. This was a book about caterpillars that turn into moths or butterflies. I wonder what our caterpillar will turn into.

We listened to a CD of “Going on a Bear Hunt”. We read along with the book of the same name. We learnt about the “C” and “K” sound. It is the beginning sound for Clark, cat, kite and car. We had bubbles in our water play. We just loved the bubbles.

Do not forget to help us learn our poem for our fancy dress up party on 2 December. 7…00pm-8.00pm.

Mrs Hiscox has finished her time with us. Mrs Mayor has begun with us from 11.00am – 2.00pm each day.

Thank Mrs Clark, Mrs Wilson, Mrs M and Miss Natasha.

Week 8 Activities

Toddlers Corner.

Last week we did golf ball painting and drawing.

We also made chocolate pudding yummy!!!!

Our rhyme this week was “Five Little Bunnies”.

We read “Whoosh” and “Three Little Ducks” and a book Mikayla brought from home.

We danced “Wiggle like Elves”.

Mr Christie came and played bagpipes for us. We danced a fling, marched and danced the Hokey Pokey while he played. It was great fun. We kept saying more, more. Thank you Mr Christie.

Please check the lost property as the boxes are overflowing again.

Thanks Mrs Haller, Miss Smallman.

We are making something special for Father’s Day. We hope our dads like it.

We have some new equipment for our obstacle course. We have a balance beam and scooter boards. Now we exercise our gross motor skills, such as balancing and climbing.

We learnt about the “i” sound. It is the beginning sound for “itch, “Indian” and “ink”.

We read “Grannysauras Rex”, “Olga the Brolga” and “The Life Cycle of the Frog”.

We danced and moved to “Galoop Went the Little Green Frog”. Abbey found a frog in the sand pit and so we wanted to learn about frogs. Also, we read “A Night at the Museum”.

We did lots of lovely paintings and we collaged a stegosaurus.

Please remember to supply your child with hats and water bottles.

Do not forget our sports day on 18 September. If you would like to help us please let us know. If anyone can donate a watermelon it would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great week.

Thank Mrs Clark, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Hiscox and Miss Natasha.

Our Week

Toddlers Corner.

Last week we made kites, we coloured some which had faces on them and made others out of shopping bags.  We put red tails on them. We also made a wind vane and hung it under the covered area near the sand pit.

We read “Three Little Ducks Went Wandering”, “Wide Eye and Friends” and “James and the Model Aeroplane”.

We sang “The Wheels of the Bus” with actions.

We did two rhymes “I’m a Little Teapot” and “I have Hands” both with actions.

We learnt about sinking and floating. We put things in water to see which would sink and which would float.

Ms Smallman baked us some blue and red patty cakes which we had at afternoon outside play.

We also did box construction. Wow, did we have great creations.

Thanks Mrs Haller, Ms Smallman.

Kindy Pre/Prep Corner

Last week we learnt about the “P” sound. It is the beginning sound in words such as pig, pink, purple and Peter.

We did some threading. This is very good for our hand-eye coordination. We made some wonderful necklaces for our mums.

Mrs Wilson read us a book about celebrations. The book talked about different cultures having celebrations. (Example of Inclusive Practices Policy. Mr Mullaly) Mrs Wilson read this because in the sandpit we made each other birthday cakes and we sang happy birthday to each other.

Some of us had our own V8 Super Car Derby. We raced our bikes up and down the path. We even had a starter. (A person saying ready, set, go!)

Mrs Clark’s friends came to visit us last week (puppet friends). They helped read stories to us such as “I Went Walking” and “Wombat Stew”. We thought this was great. We laughed and laughed. They were really funny puppets.

Toddlers Corner.

Last week we read about bugs and looked at bugs through magnifying glasses. We collaged and coloured a bird on a nest. We used feathers, egg shells, leaves and paper bark. The feathers were soft, the egg shells hard, the leaves dry and crunchy and the paper bark smooth. We also made a bird with folded wings.

Our rhyme was “Little Bird”.

A little bird went hop, hop, hop

I told the little bird to stop, stop, stop.

I went to the window to say “how do you do”,

And he spread his wings and away he flew.

We read the “Bug Book”. This was the favourite.  Our grass heads are doing very well and are going home this week.  We practised counting and our colours. We did puzzles and shape sorting.

Mrs Clark has been teaching us line dancing at outside playtime. Some of us are very good at it.

We also did drawing and easel painting.

Another book we read was “I think I’ll go flying”. From this book we learnt about “over and under”, “front and back” and “inside and “outside”.

One day we had a big tug – o –war. This was great fun.

Thanks Mrs Haller, Miss Smallman.

On Friday we made 3D puffy paint.  Then we painted with it and when it dried out it looked like shiny crystals.  It was fun.

We still love line dancing. Some of us love to waltz.

We did the Hokey Pokey and we sang “Old MacDonald had a farm”.

Outside we love to play with the big rope. We played tug-o war. This was fun.  Mrs H and Mrs Wilson’s team had a turn in winning.

Yesterday, 28 July, we went to Caitlin MacDonalds grandparent’s farm. We saw goats, ducks, chickens, guinea fowls, pigs and their piglets. Some of us were able to feed a baby goat some milk. We fed some bread to the animals.  Boy, the pigs were greedy.

It was a great day. Pity Mrs Clark didn’t know where she was going.

Toddlers Corner.

Children have been asking to go up to the school again. We had fun on the holidays taking the bikes up to play under the covered area. We also went to the library and read a book. We will do this again next school holidays.

Last week we talked about the sun. How it helps us keep warm and how plants need the sun for them to grow. We made some grass heads and we have put them on the window sill so they can get sun. We are hoping to see them with lots of green spiky hair soon.

We also made a happy sun face and some daffodils.

We read about “Bees” and “Sunflowers” and a book called “God’s Plan for Plants”. Our rhyme last week was “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”.

Thanks Mrs Haller, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Ford, Miss Smallman, Miss Patterson

KINDY/PRE-PREP CORNER

A reminder. Please bring in a fitted cot sheet and a top sheet for our new beds. The children are much more comfortable at rest times.

Next week we are going to visit a farm. Tuesday people you must return your Indemnity Form before your child can go. Everyone is welcome to bring their child but if your child is not booked in on Tuesday you will have to accompany your child.. We need parents to help with transport. It will take half an hour to get there.

Yesterday we went to the moon. We needed rocket fuel to get there. We saw green and blue aliens who said our clothes were nice. Then we read “To the Moon” by Stan and Jan Berenstain. Some of us made a glittering moon.

Last week we danced to some” Boot Scooting” music. Some of us really loved it.

The days have been really nice and we spend a long time outside playing. Yes, we all love that.
