Term 4: Week 7

Thursday: 17 November 2011

Introduction

As I am in Brisbane next week this will be my last School Bulletin as Principal of Burdekin Christian College. There will be a Special in week nine for the last week of activities.

Jan and I would like to thank you for your support during our time at Burdekin Christian College. We have many fond memories. We are looking forward to our next season in life especially becoming grandparents for the first time.

Accounts.

Could you please ensure your account is paid by the end of November?

Being Wise and Being Foolish.

We continued on this theme this week by referring to choices of friends.

Enrolments 2012.

Please encourage your friends to enrol their children in the College in 2012. Our goal is 110 students. We have 104 at the moment.

Healthy Food Shack.

The 23 November will be our last Healthy Food Shack day.   We will be having a special of one hamburger, one drink and an icy pole for $4.50. Money raised will be given to the Gospel for Asia Projects students are raising for.   Volunteers for 23 November are: Raelene Agius and Wendy Bonanno.

Professional Development.

22-23 November:  Mrs Vigerzi and Mrs Saunders - Minilit. This is a literacy program we are  introducing in the College next year.

I will also be in Brisbane on 23 November for an Associated Christian Schools Meeting.

Icy Cups.

They are $0.50 each. Remember, money raised goes to support the College's sponsor child in India

Break Up.

Break up for last day of school will be Friday 2 December at the Ten Pin Bowling Centre in Queen Street from 9.00am-11.00am. The cost will be $10.00 per child for a game of bowls, drink and chips. You are to take your children to the Ten Pin Bowling Centre and pick them up from there. Next week I will send out a form for you to indicate if your child or children are going.

Inter-school Sport.

This Friday is the last Friday for inter-school sport for years 6-7. They will be going to MacDonalds following their games. Please limit their money to $5.00.

Library Books/Home Readers

Thursday 17 November is the last day of borrowing.   ALL books and home readers MUST be returned by Thursday 29 November for stock taking.

Swimming.

Years 4-7 will be doing basic lifesaving on 21 Nov, 24 Nov, 28 Nov and 30 Nov. Parents are to take their children directly to the pool (if you cannot, they will be transported by bus). They will then be transported back to school. Parents, if you can help in this, please stay at the pool.

Parent Interviews.

Please find attached to your School Bulletin your interview time. If you did not return a form the College has allocated a time.

College Magazine.

Raelene Agius is busily completing the College Magazine and it will be ready for printing shortly. The magazine is being sponsored by Ergon Energy. You will receive this magazine at Awards Night.

Gold Awards.

As you are aware students receive silver awards if their behaviour has been of a certain standard at the end of each term. These awards are a certificate and a $3.00 voucher for the Healthy Food Shack.

Gold awards will be given to students at the end of the year who has displayed exceptional behaviour.

If your child is to receive a Gold Award you will receive a letter to inform you of the arrangements.

Special Class Sports.

Casper Licciardello and Joel McKeough are organising special sports activities for classes next week. Prep and year one will doing these activities next Tuesday, years 2-5 next Wednesday and years 6-7 next Thursday.

Class parties.

Each class will have their own class party on Wednesday 30 November. The purpose of this party will be to give out Student Awards. Each student will receive an award from their teacher. The teachers give an award on a character of a child that they remember them by. Your child's teacher will inform you of the arrangements for her class.

Presentation Night.

This is Thursday night 1 December at 7.00pm in the College Hall. The purpose of this night is to honour those students who have shown significant improvement during the year or have excelled at a high level. All students are expected to attend. It is quite embarrassing for your child to receive an award and they are not present.

Students will be singing Christmas carols.  Could you please bring a plate for supper?

Letter.

Dear Parents and Guardians

As the last few weeks of school are coming to an end, Harper, Mr Mullaly and I have put together a little competition to raise money for the kids in Asia to help them have a great Christmas as us children do in Australia.

Harper and I must apologize for not sending a letter out last week for the free dress day.   We are sorry.   This week we are having a crazy hair day on Friday which will need a gold coin donation

At the moment Year 6/7 are winning the competition.   We have raised $100.00.

All the students can bring money in at any time and give it to Harper or Ambah

and we will put it in their class box with rest of the money.

The competition will end on the last week of school on Wednesday.   Then the years 4/5 and 6/7 will have a vote on what to buy for the people of Asia.

The class that wins will get a Christmas Lollie bag each.   There will also be little activities during the competition.

So remember 'A CRAZY HAIR DAY' on Friday this week.   Bring a gold coin donation.

Harper, Ambah and Mr Mullaly.
